Meet The Maker: Sherry Mallory of Proclaimed Blessings

Meet Sherry

Sherry says the Workbox is her blessing that came out of Hurricane Harvey. Read on to learn more about how her dream workspace and "Scrap Office" came to be!

Have you always considered yourself to be a creative person?

I discovered my creative side when I began my teaching career. I found designing bulletin boards and creative lessons were abilities I didn’t really know I had. My “crafting” side just developed from my classroom and true inspirations from a clever and talented mother and grandmother.

What is your favorite part of the creative process?

I love the birth of an idea and then seeing the finished product.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find that Scripture along with my faith truly give me most of my inspiration. Crafty friends also inspire me.

What is your favorite project you've ever completed?

I have too many favorite projects - I was blessed to have designed scripture based tiles and frames that a church priest saw and invited me to show and sell them at his church.

How were you organizing your tools and supplies before the WorkBox?

Before the “wonder”ful addition of the Workbox, my crafting area was very loosely organized, supplies were scattered and stored everywhere. It was chaotic to work in and embarrassing for anyone to see.

Tell us about your experience with Hurricane Harvey.

Hurricane Harvey damaged a lot of my storage cabinetry, ruined equipment and supplies, and basically led to me being unable to craft at all. I threw away, sold, or gave away a lot craft items. Basically I was truly going to stop crafting at all.

Tell us about when you ordered your WorkBox.

When I was crying and telling my husband that I was going to stop crafting and would “just get rid of what was left”, he told me to order “that box thing you’ve always wanted!” I told him it was too much money but he hollered from the other room - “ ORDER THE BOX”! He stood over my shoulder until I ordered the Workbox. WHAT A WONDERFUL MAN I MARRIED!

Tell us a little bit about the delivery and assembly process of your WorkBox.

I had read about what to expect with the delivery but wow was I surprised at the size of the crate. We opened and unloaded it in small sections. It took several days to assemble due to my husbands back injury from pulling up wet flooring from Hurricane Harvey. Since we had newly installed carpet, the problem of rolling the Workbox was solved by using wood underneath.

What are some of your other hobbies or interests?

I can or preserve produce from our garden, serve in church activities, go antique shopping, and redecorate our home by moving things around to my husband’s frustration.

How does it feel to have a creative space that is all your own?

I love having an area that doesn’t interfere with the rest of our home.
