Meet Sarah
We are so excited to introduce you to Sarah and her fabulous she-shed. Sarah is a true multi-crafter and does a little bit of everything. Continue reading if you don't mind feeling major workspace envy!
Q: Have you always considered yourself to be a creative person?
A:
Yes, I have always considered myself to be a creative person. You know in high school how you are voted "most likely to..."? Well, I was voted most likely to be the next Martha Stewart haha.
Q: What was your workspace like before this setup?
A: My workspace was basically a plastic folding table in my living room in various boxes and bags piled on top of each other aka A GIANT DISASTER. My crafts were taking over the entire house and my husband was not happy about it. I have always had a large amount of crafting supplies and after I purchased a Cricut, my crafting supplies exploded and went to a new level. I wanted to turn my crafting hobby into more of a side hustle: insert: The Original ScrapBox.
Q: Tell us about the process of building your shed.
A: I purchased the shed as a shell, but in order to actually work in there, it needed AC, which entailed getting my husband to insulate, and put up plywood. After purchasing all of the items for that, we moved onto the flooring, walls and ceiling. I wanted a rustic southern feel so I went with a dark wood vinyl plank flooring, some reclaimed wood pieces for the front and back walls and really affordable paneling that I believe was around $15 for a 10x12 sheet for the side walls. The ceiling is metal roofing that was a bit challenging to install (I actually helped with that part), but SO worth it! My arms were like spaghetti for days but I LOVE the look and feel the ceiling gives. I also caulked all of the holes, paneling, and baseboards myself. I'm a DIYer at heart. Once all of the major things were in place my husband was able to install an A/C window unit and then I could FINALLY decorate my shed with all of my recent SunnySouthLove projects for display or purchase.
Q: What do you love most about your current setup?
A: I love that I can have my WorkBox open in my shed and have easy access to everything that has a home of its own.
Q: What is your favorite thing about the WorkBox?
A:
My favorite thing about the WorkBox is probably the clear acrylic boxes. Being able to see the items is extremely helpful. Eventually I would like to put some labels on them!
Q: Are you a naturally organized person?
A:
I am definitely not a naturally organized person. I would say that sometimes I even thrive on the chaos and disorganization. However; the ScrapBox has kept my crafting organized (thank goodness)! Now that I have something to keep my craft supplies organized, I feel like I need one for my makeup, accessories, and jewelry (with a full length mirror, of course).
Q: Tell us about the behind the scenes. What does a typical day look like for you?
A:
A typical day for me is working my current full-time job at home as a Banking Consultant (Anti-Money Laundering). I am also a Rodan + Fields Skincare Consultant and am really loving meeting new people through this business since I work from home. And then, in my SPARE time, I decided to create @SunnySouthLove, which is my crafting side hustle, which has also helped me in my Skincare business as well!
Q: What are some of your other hobbies or interests? What do you do in your down time?
A:
Besides crafting, I am a foodie and love to travel! My mom always says I have a bag packed and ready to go and that I've been "traveling" since I was 2 year old... even if it was just down the street to my best friend's house. If you'd like to follow my foodie and travels, check out my IG accounts @littlepersonbigappetite and @sarahqroberts. I am also a beach lover and enjoy going fishing with my husband and his family.
Q: What inspires you?
A:
I am a Floridian, born and raised. Therefore, The Sunshine State has always been a constant in my life. I am inspired by where I live, hence the name SunnySouthLove. I am also inspired by palm trees, the open seas, and country music; however, I love all types of music.
Q: What are your favorite things to make? What do you spend most of your time doing in your she-shed?
A:
Hmmm. This is a tough question because I really enjoy finding new projects and testing them out to see if I can make it, first and then eventually sell. I like a challenge every now and then! I've decorated insulated cups, t-shirts, etched lass, made various signs, but so far I think my favorite projects have been the decorated deer skulls with paper flowers and wood signs.
When I'm in my she-shed, I can relax, listen and sing to music as loud as I want and not have to worry about dog-hair getting on my projects while I craft. I love my dogs, but not their hair, haha. I do lots of things in my she-shed. If I am not working my banking job, or taking photos or videos of my Rodan & Fields products, you can find me sitting at my WorkBox most likely with my computer watching Netflix and making decals or hats that say 'Sunshine State of Mind.'
